Emergencies that require immediate attention

• Animals that have been hit by a car All animals that are hit by cars do not show the same degree of injury. Some are obviously wounded, but some can walk into the hospital with tails wagging. Because there is always the chance of severe internal injuries when dog meets car, these trauma patients should always be evaluated by a doctor.
• Seizuring animals A seizure is an erratic shaking/thrashing of body parts. These animals should immediately be taken in to see a doctor.
• Comatose or collapsed animals need immediate attention. These cases may need blood transfusions, oxygen therapy, glucose, etc.
• Animals exhibiting difficulty breathing should immediately be taken to see a doctor.
• Bleeding animals should immediately be taken to see a doctor.
• Animals that have ingested poisons, human medications or other toxic substances In these cases, time is of the essence. Remember to bring any information you have regarding the item ingested; package, remaining product, bottle, etc. This information can prove invaluable.
